Lisa Kirk Colburn is a writer/director/producer whose work includes the documentary, Sacred Stage: The Mariinsky Theater, which premiered at the Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. and at Lincoln Center in New York City before playing to worldwide audiences. Lisa produced and directed the feature-length documentary, Gottfried Helnwein and the Dreaming Child.
For artist Gottfried Helnwein, the child has always been a symbol of innocence. But after learning the horrors children suffered during the Holocaust, he also sees them as a symbol of innocence betrayed and uses this motif to create stunning and controversial images.
When the Israeli Opera plans a new production based on the work of Hanoch Levin, Israel’s most famous playwright, Helnwein is hired as Production Designer.
The film captures Helnwein’s struggle to remain true to the playwright’s original vision.
