Born in Jackson, Michigan, Gayle Moran Corea is a vocalist, keyboard player (piano, organ and synthesizer) and songwriter. During the mid-1970s, she was a member of and the only singer to have performed, toured and recorded with the great guitarist John McLaughlin and the Mahavishnu Orchestra, appearing on Apocalypse (produced by George Martin) and Visions of the Emerald Beyond. Her collaboration with Chick Corea became a lifelong partnership, and she has appeared with him over the years on many recordings, including Return to Forever’s album Musicmagic, the RTF Live Album and various Chick Corea solo albums—including Grammy winner The Leprechaun, My Spanish Heart, Mad Hatter, Secret Agent and Touchstone. She also recorded with the revered vibraphonist Lionel Hampton. Gayle produced her own solo album, I Loved You Then… I Love You Now, and more recently co-produced and sang on the 2020 Grammy-winning album Antidote by Chick Corea and the Spanish Heart Band.
Gayle and Chick Corea have been married since the 1970s, and she continues to create her own music, as well as collaborate with Chick and other accomplished artists.
